Most grow lights require reflectors, fans, yearly bulb changes and heat producing bulbs that require extensive cooling systems, consuming even more energy and more profits. The LED UFO does not. It is easy to use and easy on the wallet. Just hang it up and plug it in. No separate reflectors, fans, annual bulb changes, or cooling systems required. The LED UFO is completely self contained, generates virtually no heat, and does not require heavy gauge wiring.

The LED UFO ballast is not exactly a ballast. They are slightly more complex than a ballast - this has 5 output cords, ballasts generally only have 2. This ballast contains (2) LED drivers, (1) Fan Driver for the fans, and a temperature control system that will shut the LED off if it makes it to a critical temperature.. We initially had these components self contained in the array- but are achieving longer bulb life and it is easier for us to warranty having it come with a "ballast" - it pretty much eliminates all the circuitry from the LED array itself and put the complex parts into the ballast. The ballast will be the component that fails if anything does, and it will be much easier to warranty this one part by replacing it rather than repairing a complex LED array.

The LED UFO has an amazing life of 28,000+ hours - that's 6 years at 12 hours per day.
No setup required - this is a plug-n-play grow light that plugs into your standard 110-120 volt electrical outlets.
Each light covers nine square feet. Draws 0.7 amps at 120 volts, allowing more than 10 LED UFO lights to be plugged into the same electrical outlet!

The bulbs themselves at the hottest temperature in testing (in a 90 degree room) was 104 degrees - of the LED's themselves using a laser thermometer. In a 3' x 3' x 5' tall cabinet the ambient temperature will be raised only 1-3 degrees.
They are NOT good options for people on a budget who will only be using a light for 1-3 months - these people would be best off just buying a $140 400W Digital ballast, bulb and reflector combo. The people who will be using it for a year, or many years, will reap a large reward from the UFO's use.
That being said, there is a commercial lettuce grower in Canada who uses these to cover a 10' x 10' area by hanging them up 6' over his tables. He is using these in a greenhouse just as supplemental lighting and to extend day length - not as a primary lighting source. We also have had a few customers use these in conjunction with T5 fluorescent lights - some have noticed some benefits of the full spectrum.

Coverage:
The 3'x3' area is a suggestion based upon its use as a primary lighting source. As you have probably experienced, light movers increase coverage, however yield is somewhat fixed to photon output - so for instance if you have a 400W light over a fixed 2.5' x 2.5' area vs. a light mover covered 5' x 2.5' area - your yield will be very close to the same.That being said, there is a commercial lettuce grower in Canada who uses these to cover a 10' x 10' area by hanging them up 6' over his tables.
