Hydroponic sprouting provides the same year around quality and nutritional benefits in a few days that you expect from growing the full size plants over a period of weeks or months. One or more automatic sprouters added to your hydroponics systems take up relatively small space, time or effort while providing supplemental nutritional foodstuffs within a few days.
"Sprouts are the ideal supplement- The food of the future. They are economical, ecological, low in calories/fat, easy to store, fast and easy to grow, tasty and versatile. For the avoidance of toxic build-up, free radicals, Oxides, Hydroxyls, etc....we need to add nutrients directly from nature and 100% organic." Sol Azoulay, Seed and Grain Technologies.
The same nutritional food that was consumed by Chinese nobles 5,000 years ago can be available to you in five days utilizing an automatic sprouter, seeds, and water. A recent study listed in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, USA indicated that broccoli and cauliflower sprouts appear to be an exceptionally rich source of inducers of enzymes that protect against chemical carcinogens. In other words, eating broccoli or cauliflower sprouts can help protect you against certain types of cancer.
Seed and Grain Technologies has compiled various charts of scientific data for you to better understand the advantages of sprouts in your diet. For Example, in the:
"Radish Sprouts vs. Mature Radish Vegetables
Milligrams per 100 Grams Edible Portion" table:
The chart shows that Radish sprouts provide significantly more vitamins and minerals than do mature Radishes for the same measure edible portion. And the radish sprouts are available in days not weeks. Many other tables and comparisons are also listed.
Soil vs Hydroponics
Plants can use and absorb nutrients ONLY in their inorganic form. Microbial activities decompose the organic matter in soil to inorganic elements that can be used by plants. Hydroponic nutrients provide the inorganic elements in the form that plants can use.
If you prefer growing greens in soil, add 1/4" potting soil to the bottom of the tray or cartridge and then sprinkle seeds on the soil. Moisten the tray and insert it into the sprouter. The soil will not harm the machine in any way.
Note: Wheatgrass sprouts need to be removed from the sprouter and placed in light for a day or two to green up. Bare wheatgrass roots need to be kept moist. Soil or other medium used around the roots keep the roots moist longer between moistenings.
The EG-Mikrofarm automatic sprouter is efficient, quiet, & elegantly designed. Just place the sprouter where it receives sufficient light, add seeds, fill the reservoir with water, set the timer and harvest the delicious sprouts 5 to 8 days later.
